Emilie is a lawyer and trademark agent with a combination practice of litigation and solicitor work.
As an IP litigator, she helps clients solve contentious disputes in the areas of trademarks, patents, trade secrets/confidential information, copyright, industrial designs, privacy disputes, and domain name disputes. She represents a wide variety of clients, from small start-up businesses to multi-national corporations in large-scale patent infringement litigation. She has appeared in the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, BC Supreme Court, and the BC Court of Appeal.
As an IP solicitor, she provides strategic advice to clients on all aspects of their intellectual property portfolios, including IP development strategy and best practices for internal IP protection. She prepares related commercial agreements such as non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), licensing and royalty agreements, manufacture and supply agreements, joint development agreements, and assignments. Emilie is also a registered Canadian trademark agent and handles all levels of trademark prosecution, from brand development to registration.
Emilie also has specialized expertise in the cannabis industry. She assists licensed producers, retailers, and cannabis-adjacent businesses on advertising matters, regulatory compliance, packaging and labeling, commercial contracts, and IP strategy and enforcement. She is currently a member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s National Cannabis Business Coalition and the International Trademarks Association (INTA)’s Emerging Issues – Cannabis Subcommittee. She has been re-appointed to the INTA Emerging Issues committee for the 2024-2025 term and will continue her work on the Cannabis Subcommittee.
Emilie was one of two recipients of the 2023 INTA Tomorrow’s Leader Award, and was named in the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Best Lawyers – Ones to Watch.
Emilie obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Canadian history and her law degree at the University of British Columbia, and she clerked in the British Columbia Supreme Court. She is also fluent in French and enjoys hiking, skiing, and live music.
